Sofitel, Brecon St

The Brecon Street Steps replaced a series of overgrown ramps and delivery access street that serviced the original shops and flats. The construction of the brand new adjacent Sofitel Hotel required a rethink of this entire space. For historic reasons a ramp was incorporated as well as providing egress for pram and elderly access to Man Street.  An accessible requirement  to the Lone Star front door dictated a ramp on the southern side and presented levels challenges for the design team.

Custom designed lighting, paving, extensive planting and a water feature were all integrated into the complex multi leveled design.  Baxter Design Group received a national NZILA award for this design.
