Project

Steamer Wharf

Project Information

Prepared as part of the Earnslaw Park upgrade, the public open space around Steamer Wharf has become a popular centre point within the Queenstown CBD alongside Lake Wakatipu and the mooring location of the Steam Ship Earnslaw.

The area provides a green seating space which acts as a public respite to the hard paving that surrounds the greater area and is popular lunch time spot, is frequently used for farmers' markets, street entertainment and the annual Queenstown Summer and Winter Festivals.

The design incorporates an irregular raised lawn / stage area with a sunken water area with design features highlighting local significant mountains.  The principle stone column is a historical core sample representation of the surrounding land with steel bands depicting the floods of Lake Wakatipu within recent history.
