Balclutha is the main commercial town in the Clutha District. It is close to the east coast, south of Dunedin on the Clutha river. The town centre is centred along the main Clyde Street which carries a lot of vehicular traffic passing through the town. Baxter Design was approached to revitalise the town centre and bring the dilapidated Clyde Street back to life in the central shopping heart area. Baxter Design, with the assistance of the Clutha District Council, rebuilt a central derelict site along Clyde Street into a wide open plaza area with a green wall, large planters and tall timber poles representing Balclutha's role as the gateway to The Catlins.
